Rekam Nusantara Foundation and the Bogor City Ciliwung Naturalization Task Force visited the Bogor City SMPN 11 school to provide education and waste sorting practices on Wednesday (07/11/23) with the slogan "Changing is Easy, Sorting is Not Difficult".

Education provided regarding rivers, waste and waste sorting. Apart from education, it also provides awareness to students that the distance between the school and the river is only 150 meters.

SMPN 11 is the first level school to be provided with education by the Ciliwung Naturalization Task Force. With a total of 1051 students and teachers, it is able to produce a large amount of waste. On the other hand, the school also tries to protect the environment through Environmental Ambassadors of 25 students.

In his presentation, Suparno Jumar as the task force team explained the upstream and downstream areas of the river which passes through several sub-districts from Katulampa, Tajur, Sindang Rasa, Baranangsiang, Sukasari, Babakan Pasar, Sempur, Bantar Jati, Tanah Sareal, Cibuluh, Kedung Badak, Sukaresmi, to Kedung Block.

Rivers are part of a natural ecosystem that cannot be separated from each other. When we talk about rivers there must be rubbish, when we talk about rubbish there must be in rivers. The school is located close to a river so its activities indirectly impact the river.

Therefore, it is important to know the types of waste and know how to sort them since you are a student because you are still in the learning process, so it is easier to understand. If you remember the current environmental issues, it would be good for pupils and students to be an important part of the sorting itself.

Niko Putra Pratama Sagala, a class 7A student, said, "There is a real need for education, because if you don't know which rubbish is this, which rubbish is, there will probably be a lot of it scattered in nature."

Most students only know about 2 types of waste, namely organic and inorganic. In fact, this waste also includes other types of waste, such as organic waste, some produced by humans (food waste) and some that comes from nature (dry leaves, grass, twigs).

After being given an overview of types of waste, students are also given how to sort organic and inorganic waste properly and correctly.

The activities carried out by SMPN 11 students are habituation activities which are carried out regularly on Fridays with the slogan Clean Friday. This activity is carried out once a week by cleaning the classroom.

The second activity is a daily picket which has a schedule that must be carried out. The school does not prepare many rubbish bins, but students prepare rubbish bins in their respective classes. When you come home the rubbish will be thrown straight into the rubbish bin.

The third activity is through the Adiwiyata program which also has a person in charge. One of the Adiwiyata program activities is the collection of used plastic bottles and used cooking oil which is managed by Adiwiyata in collaboration with students. Profits from used plastic bottles and used cooking oil will be collected and the amount will be donated. The Adiwiyata team sorts plastic waste every day and reminds students to collect waste that cannot be processed.

Apart from activities, the school also provides knowledge through Environmental Care (PLH) subjects and projects. SMPN 11 Bogor City has participated in the "Sustainable Lifestyle" project, one of which is about waste, "How Do We Sort Waste".

Reni Supriati, Principal of SMP Negeri 11 Bogor City said, "I would like to thank the Rekam Nusantara team and the Task Force for providing outreach to our children about good and correct waste management."

So this is very beneficial for children, because this is also in line with our vision, one of which is the realization of students who are trustworthy, high achieving, dynamic and environmentally cultured. "So it really aligns with what we want to do," he added.

With this education, it is hoped that students will change themselves in handling waste properly and correctly.
